Participation in the National Youth Concert Band NL (NYCB.nl) is reserved for students at the Conservatories of Music and young professionals who preferably commit to our Band for the duration of one season at a time (September to August).

During the school year 2025-2026, registration is possible per separate rehearsel or project. We have to get acquainted, don’t we? A concert is always preceded by one, two or three rehearsels or an entire project weekend (Saturday plus Sunday). Separate rehearsels are held on Saturday afternoon.

The requirements and demands as stated below apply to all band members.

General

We assume awareness of the written and unwritten rules which apply within the field of classical music. These are, amongst others, represented by and supplemented with the following.

Requirements

  • student at a Conservatory of Music: minimum age 18 years; Bachelor or Master studies
  • annual admission procedure: application; audition; interview
  • good health: medically fit on the way to top fit

* we assume the band member brings a solid understanding of and about hygiene and health. This means, amongst other things, he or she is healthy of body and mind and remains to do so. One refrains from using addictive substances (free from any form or type of addiction), piercings are only allowed at the usual place in the earlobe and tattoo(s) nowhere.

Demands

  • band members either participate in all weekly rehearsels on Monday and or Saturday plus monthly concerts or just the one rehearsel of choice; participation in extra performances is intended for regular band members only
  • motivation, ambition, focus, discipline & striving for excellence are brought by the band member him-/herself
  • at graduation of the Conservatory of Music or discontinuation of professional studies, the band member is allowed to stay

And then there is this

  • we expect impeccable behavior from and by the band member
  • we distinguish between professional and private
  • we function on a neutral basis: expressions of philosophical, religious and or political nature are unwanted

Costs

The band member bears the following costs him-/herself:

  • purchase: musical instrument(s); prescribed clothing & footwear
  • take out insurance: legal liability (WA); privately owned musical instrument(s); etc.
  • travel & accommodation expenses: rehearsels; concerts; performances
  • contribution: EUR 30,– per rehearsel

  • musical instrument(s) as played/studied
  • at which Conservatory of Music you are currently studying in which academic year
  • if a Resume (CV) has been drawn up, please add as an attachment in .pdf-format

Response

After application the band members will be informed by e-mail stating where the rehearsel will be held.
